What is NTR?

NTR is a trusted quality labelling system used for the classification and quality control of wood and wood products that have been treated with preservatives or have been modified. It is now the de-facto standard for the construction industry and authorities.

The NTR system is unique and has helped to develop a high consumer confidence in wood that has a long and reliable service life, with excellent protection against fungal and insect attack.

NTR was introduced in 1969 at the initiative of the Nordic Ministerial Council. Today, it has evolved into a cooperation between the Nordic wood protection trade associations (Dansk Træbeskyttelse, Kestopuuteollisuus, Treindustrien, Svenska Träskyddsföreningen) and is the largest wood quality system for durablility in Europe. A total of 110 companies are NTR-certified, which means their wood products can bear the NTR label to show their customers that the wood has been produced according to the NTR standards. The majority of wood products that are produced in the Nordic countries have the NTR label.

Why Wood Protection?

Wood protection such as preservative treatments prolongs the service life of North European wood species (such as Scots Pine) and makes them suitable for construction, gardening and agricultural purposes.
