The southern Swedish city of Växjö is well known for its mighty cathedral and its many lakes, but these days it has a modern architectural glory to add to its list.

Vattentorget, the water square, is a beautiful wooden jetty and promenade in the city centre on the shores of Lake Växjö that was opened in 2018. It acts as a social hub and event space for residents and visitors to enjoy all year round.

As befits eco-conscious Växjö, a city surrounded by forests that’s become known as Europe’s first modern wooden town, Vattentorget was made from wood that’s been treated by preservatives which meet NTR’s wood protection standards. It’s an inviting, environmentally-friendly milieu that’s a living, breathing meeting place at the heart of the city.
